After the recent leaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 feels more real than ever, even though we're a little over one month away from its expected official unveiling at Unpacked. By the sound of it, some aspects got better, while others have not. And according to some new bits of information, foldable screen brightness falls in the latter category.

A Galaxy Z Fold 5 specs round-up by @AhmedQwaider888 reminds us of several hardware characteristics of the upcoming device and also seems to reveal at least one extra detail concerning the foldable panel's brightness.

Namely, the Galaxy Z Fold 5's 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel will have a 1-120Hz refresh rate and reach 1,200 nits of brightness, just like the ongoing Galaxy Z Fold 4. It's unclear if the cover screen got any brighter, but its dimensions and other specs appear to be the same (6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 48-120Hz).

Also unchanged seems to be the camera system. Apparently, the main setup comprises a 50MP primary, 10MP telephoto, and 12MP ultra-wide units. Then, the foldable panel hides a 4MP under-display camera, while the cover screen has a 10MP selfie sensor embedded into it.

The device should be powered by a 4,400mAh dual battery with 25W charging, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. But the batteries will be easier to replace.

Higher performance in a lighter device with a better hinge

Although things appear samey so far, some aspects about the Galaxy Z Fold series have changed for the better. Everyone expects the upcoming foldable phone to be powered by the newer Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which should provide a CPU, GPU, and NPU performance increase of 19%, 25%, and 30%, respectively.

This SoC is wrapped in a foldable body that is held together by an improved hinge. It will allow the phone to fold flat and should offer a superior Flex Mode experience. Some rumors even say that the phone is now dust-resistant.

And despite, or perhaps thanks to, the newer hinge design, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will supposedly be lighter than the ongoing model. It should tip the scales at 253 grams rather than 263g. Samsung appears to have developed a more powerful, slicker, and lighter foldable phone, but it hasn't pushed the bar in every area.

This mix of old and new might make the Z Fold 5 a hard sell for existing Galaxy Z Fold 4 users who don't have access to the best trade-in values. But at the very least, the upcoming model should be an interesting upgrade for Z Fold 3 users. Time will tell. Samsung should unveil the device on July 27.
