True to earlier reports, Samsung confirmed earlier today that it will hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 27, 2023. The company's next major launch event will happen in South Korea for the first time, and the company will unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 at the event. Previously, Samsung has launched its flagship smartphones in Barcelona, Spain, or San Francisco/New York, USA, so a launch in its home country is something new this year.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 will launch in Seoul, South Korea

The next Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event will take place on July 27 at COEX, a convention center in Samseong-dong, Gangnam. It is a place that is seen as an intersection where Teheran-ro, a hub for innovative startups, and Bongeunsa, a Buddhist temple, converge. According to TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience), Samseong-dong offers a captivating blend of past, present, and future that defines South Korea's capital Seoul.

Samsung said that it is changing its direction of launching its foldable phones. It plans to hold launch events in popular cultural cities around the world that closely match the designated theme of each event. This year, the launch of its Galaxy Z series is happening in Seoul, and it is possible that next year's event will happen in a different city.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 are expected to bring a new type of hinge for a stronger and more elegant folding design. The new hinge reportedly has a water droplet-like shape that allows the phones to fold without any gap between the two sides. It also makes the screen crease less prominent. Both phones are also rumored to feature an IP58 rating for dust and water resistance. The two phones are also expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor, similar to Galaxy S23 series devices. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a huge cover display for higher productivity when the phone is closed.

Samsung could also unveil Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9 series at Galaxy Unpacked 2023 Part 2

Alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung is also expected to unveil its next-generation smartwatches: Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. The company could also unveil the Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. Whether or not Samsung will unveil its upcoming XR headset in response to the launch of Apple's Vision Pro mixed reality headset remains to be seen.
