Samsung’s developing another Galaxy S22 trio under a new model number

The Galaxy S22 series will have different model numbers corresponding to different markets, regardless of how the company chooses to divvy up the Exynos and Qualcomm chipsets. This is nothing out of the ordinary, and as usual, model numbers ending in the letters “U,” “B,” and “N” will correspond to the international, US, and Korean Galaxy S22 models, respectively. But interestingly enough, Samsung appears to be developing yet another Galaxy S22 trio under a new model number that ends in the letter “E.”

Samsung has yet to use this designation for a released product, but it's worth noting that an E-based model number for the unreleased Galaxy S21 FE got spotted at the FCC a couple of months ago. As for the Galaxy S22 series, our colleagues at Galaxy Club suspect that Samsung could be developing the SM-S901E, SM-S906E, and SM-S908E variants for regions such as Africa and Asia — including India.

It's unclear what chipset these Galaxy S22 variants will use, but they could be Qualcomm. A recent rumor claims that there won't be an Exynos model anywhere, but it's more likely that Samsung will use the Qualcomm SoC in more markets that usually belong to the Exynos camp.

As to why these supposed changes are happening, your guess is as good as ours, but there's no denying that the global semiconductor shortage has made things more difficult to manage and predict. These E-branded models could be Samsung's answer to that, but time will tell.
