Galaxy Chromebooks to get a few minor features with ChromeOS 109 update

Chromebooks, including Samsung's, are about to get a few minor features with a new software update. Google has started rolling out the stable version of ChromeOS 109 to all Chromebooks worldwide. The update should reach all eligible Chrome OS-based devices, including desktop computers, within the next few days.

The ChromeOS 109 update brings a minor visual change to how apps behave when the device has just booted. After booting the machine, apps used to display a greyed-out app icon when the ARC (Android Runtime for Chrome) wasn't ready to launch apps. After the latest update, apps open a window with a splash screen until the ARC is ready. As noted by 9To5Google, this is an excellent visual trick to make the device feel faster, even though it probably takes just as long to launch the app and start using it.

Another new feature coming to ChromeOS devices is the ability to add a HEX code of the color in the custom color picker in the Gallery's Annotation feature. This allows you to use the exact color you're looking for rather than choosing the nearest possible color from the preset of 20 colors.

In the web browser window, Google has renamed the ‘From The Web' feature to ‘About This Page.' This feature can be accessed by clicking the lock-shaped icon on the left side of the address bar. It displays a Wikipedia snippet, an “in their own words” description, and web results about the website or the brand.
