Samsung had released the July 2021 security patch to the international variants of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra last week. Now, the company has expanded the rollout to the unlocked 5G variants of the Galaxy Note 20 series. The new software update is yet to reach the carrier variants of those smartphones.

The latest update for the unlocked 5G variants of the Galaxy Note 20 (SM-N981U1) and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (SM-N986U1) has been released in Puerto Rico. It comes with firmware version N98xU1UEU2DUF2 and includes the July 2021 security patch. As per Samsung's documentation, the new security update fixes close to 20 bugs related to user privacy and data security. It could also bring a dedicated QR code scanner that you can launch using the quick setting toggle. The update could also fix the Android Auto bug that we reported a few weeks ago.

If you are a Galaxy Note 20 5G or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G user in Puerto Rico, you might receive the update soon. If you don't want to wait for the OTA update to hit your device on its own, you can check for it manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also update the phone by downloading the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flashing it manually.

The new update could reach more markets over the next few days. Samsung had launched the Galaxy Note 20 series in mid-2020 with Android 10-based One UI 2.5. It received the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update in December 2020 and the One UI 3.1 update a few months ago.
