Samsung's next set of foldable smartphones—Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3—are expected to be unveiled sometime in August 2021. To that end, the company has reportedly started the mass production process for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This will make sure that Samsung has enough time to manufacture and ship enough units globally in time for the launch.

The South Korean firm has reportedly begun the mass production of all the important components for Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is also being reported that the initial production would be just one-third compared to usual flagship phones like the Galaxy S series. And that's because of the high price of foldable smartphones. Still, the company is expecting to sell more Galaxy Z Fold 3 units when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 2 from last year.

A previous report had suggested that Samsung has set a sales target of 3 million units for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and 4 million for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The mass production of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has reportedly not started yet, but we expect that Samsung will start the production over the next few days.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 expected specs

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to feature a 6.2-inch cover display that uses a 120Hz Super AMOLED Infinity-O panel. On the inside, the device will reportedly use a 7.5-inch foldable Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and QHD+ resolution. Underneath the foldable display, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to feature an under-display selfie camera. The phone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 (or Snapdragon 888+) processor, 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB internal storage, and it will run Android 11 out of the box.

In terms of imaging, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rumored to feature a 10MP selfie camera on the cover display, a 16MP under-display selfie camera below the foldable screen, and a 12MP+12MP+12MP triple rear-facing camera. 4K 60fps and HDR video recording through all the cameras should be on the cards as well. The phone's design was leaked a few weeks ago, showcasing new colors and the S Pen compatibility.

Other features that we expect to be present on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 include a fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and an official IP rating. Connectivity features could include 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.0, UWB, NFC, USB Type-C port, and Samsung Pay. The phone is powered by a 4,400mAh battery and it supports 25W fast charging, fast wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.
