Samsung is readjusting the Galaxy Z Fold 2 price by ~$500

Samsung's best foldable device yet is now available at a considerably lower price in South Korea. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was released in Samsung's home country last year for 2.398 million won ($2.122) but the same foldable flagship can now be purchased at Samsung's online store in Korea for 1.892 million won ($1,674) without trade-in.

What's more is that this doesn't seem to be a limited-time deal. Reports from the local media suggest that Samsung has permanently lowered the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in an attempt to bolster the popularity of its foldable device series. With that in mind, it is possible that Samsung will soon lower the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in other markets as well.

Samsung's preparing for its rivals, or the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Maybe both

Samsung had a head start in the foldable race but a few of its rivals are now readying their own foldable solutions for the market. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold was recently unveiled in China where it will hit the shelves for around $1,500, so the recent Z Fold 2 price reduction brings it closer to the same price range.

Samsung may have decided to lower the price of its Galaxy Z Fold 2 because of Xiaomi's competitive pricing, but then again, the Mi Mix Fold is a China-exclusive device so it shouldn't be much of a threat for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 in other markets.

There's another potential reason why Samsung has shaved $500 off the Galaxy Z Fold 2 price, and that's because a sequel is expected to be introduced in about half a year from now. But whether the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be released for a similar $2,000 price as it's predecessor remains to be seen. Until then, here's hoping that the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will get a permanent ~$500 price cut overseas as well.
