New Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+ renders surface

The Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+ are just weeks away from their unveiling, and while we’ve seen photos of Note 5 models in cases prior to now, the new photo renders confirm much of what we’ve already seen. Still, multiple photo renders may plant it firmly in the mind and help with one’s expectations of the device.

Today’s photo leaks come from GSMArena, who obtained their photo renders from ITSKINS, a case manufacturer who will undoubtedly craft cases for the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+. Let’s start with the Galaxy S6 edge+.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ is a supersized version of the Galaxy S6 edge (nothing new here), and, once again, users will need to prepare themselves for the camera bulge found on the back of the device with the rear camera. There is only a USB 2.0 charging port here (no leap forward to USB Type-C that was rumored and expected), which means that you’ll still have non-reversible charging cables this year. The speaker and charging port, among others, are all located at the bottom of the S6 edge+, which matches what we’ve seen in the S6 edge. GSMArena says that the design looks to have a glass back, which means no removable battery and no microSD card slot.

Moving on to the Note 5, everything appears to be the same externally, which matches the S6 edge+, but one thing remains: the camera. Whereas the S6 edge+’s rear camera will bulge in the same manner as the S6 and S6 edge, the Note 5’s bulging camera seems to be less protrusive and better made to fit on the back of the device, as you can see below. The reason for these rear camera differences is simple: thickness and thinness. While the Galaxy S6 edge+ is only 6.9mm thin, the Note 5 will be 7.9mm thin. The extra 1mm of thickness will not only allow Samsung to fix the protruding camera of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, but also pack a larger battery in the Note 5 (a 4,100mAh battery) that will more than make up for the device’s non-removable battery.

As for storage, you will be disappointed to know that Samsung will not grant expandable storage for the Note 5 this year, which is a big blow to many who regard the device as a productivity device. What you must keep in mind, however, is that Samsung has always provided more storage for its Note line than it has the Galaxy S series – so Samsung may up the traditional Note storage from 32GB to 64GB, as a “helping hand” to Note 5 users. In other words, the microSD card slot will become irrelevant for a number of individuals.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ will feature the same 5MP front camera and 16MP back camera with f/1.9 apertures, in addition to Samsung’s homegrown Exynos 7420 processor (the same found in the S6 and the S6 edge) and 3GB of Samsung’s all-new LPDDR4 RAM. The Galaxy Note 5 will have a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD screen resolution (2,560 x 1,440p), an Exynos 7422 processor (ePOP) that will provide the CPU, GPU, LTE, RAM, and storage on a single chip, with the smartphone world’s groundbreaking 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM (as opposed to the 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM on the Asus ZenPhone 2), a 4,100mAh battery, and perhaps a pre-installed Write on PDF function. Both the S6 edge+ and the Note 5 will be announced on August 12th, with sales to commence on August 21st.

What’s wrong with Samsung?? Couldn’t just call the s6 edge plus note edge 2 ? To make it less confusional. S6, s6 edge, s6 active and now s6 edge plus? I am excited to their announced they phones. We then note 5 which everyone except it’s to be called off course which I think gone be a beast! And then Samsung be like we also have s6 edge plus. which is phone from Q1 just in a bigger body now. Note edge 2 is a more logic name based at least year it was called note edge.

It seems the rumors start with what a next note should have, then creep downwards. Bigger screen, bigger battery, higher resolution screen, USB – c, smaller bezel, bigger storage. Then, splat, eat this consumer whether you like it or not. So if it’s 5.7″ screen I’m going to look for a super discounted note 4, or maybe look at a 5.5″ other brand. I’ve had notes 1,2 and 3. The four didn’t seem enough of a jump for the money. 128-256 GB storage should alleviate my desire for the microSD. I never liked having the difficulty of closing the back… Read more »

Yeap!
Currently no difference b/w crApple and Samsunk…
Only S6 Edge has better design!
But this wont push Note users to buy pretty jewel instead of powerful and useful device!

What’s your definition of powerful device? In my terms great processor, good SOT, software features are the things what makes note a powerful and useful device.

Currently my Note 3 is using 107+ gb of memory between the phone and 128gb micro sd card.
How do Samsung think the Note 5 will work for me and others who rely on micro sdsd? Samsung are getting as stupid as Apple.

I believe that at the end of the year Samsung will launch Galaxy Note 5 + with espansivel memory, but for now I’ll stay with Note 4.

No expandable storage = No more of my hard earned cash is going to Samsung.

I’m not paying three or four times extra for internal storage, no matter how fast it is. I use my SD cards for storing images, music, docs and downloads. I don’t need lightning fast I/O.

If this is the case (no expandable storage), hopefully sales tank, they wake up and reintroduce function over form in the Note 6.

As I recall, usually next versions of flagships is better than previous. And if you think note 4 or even note 3 is phone to be scraped straight away, then dude- you need help. 😉

That’s what is expected yes. But the S6 proved otherwise. They went backwards in innovation and features and the absolute failure in sales reflected that. The Note 5 will be the end of it, especially given the countless consecutive quarters that Samsung has posted record losses.

Rumors have never been 100 per cent the results of what we’ve seen. I have a presentiment that makes me believe that 3d leaks we’ve seen till now might be the S6 edge+ and not the Note 5…What about if Samsung doesn’t even intend to make the Note series and the S series two similar things either their hardware or functionality. Is not nothing if we haven’t seen any physical leaks of the S6+ but just its specs…although it’s highly possible renders we’ve seen could be the S6 PLUS(that makes more sense because of the hardware, which is identical to… Read more »

I am seeing absolutely no reason to upgrade from my Galaxy Note Edge to either of these phones. If I’m stuck getting an Apple like phone, then maybe Apple is my next purchase. At least then, I know when I’m getting updates!

Come on Samung the note 5 better have a 4k screen, the note 4 is still a fast and excellent phone and the only reason i need to upgrade is the calling of an amazing 4k screen… make it happen Samsung and you have my money.

If Samsung uses the new epop there will, be no way of Samsung adding sd card support anyways, due to the main board being very small to make room for the big battery, I.e. No room to add an emmc controler
