Leaked roadmap confirms Android 4.3 update schedule for Galaxy S3, S4, and Note II

Here’s some more confirmation of Samsung’s plans for updating the Galaxy S4, S3, and the Note to Android 4.3 – French carrier SFR has released a roadmap with information about their devices’ upcoming updates, and it states that the Galaxy S4 will receive the update in October, followed by the Galaxy S3 and Note II sometime between November and December.

Samsung had initially said that updates for all three devices will start from October, but it isn’t surprising that the Galaxy S4 will be given first preference. As always, carriers in the U.S. will take additional time to roll out the updates, though if Samsung Canada is to be believed, all three devices should be on the latest version of Android (well, latest for now, by then Android 4.4 ‘KitKat’ will likely be out) before this eventful year ends, regardless of region and carrier.

In terms of features, Android 4.3 will add numerous new software features from the Galaxy S4 to the Galaxy S3 and Note II, while enabling compatibility with the Galaxy Gear for all three (though the S4 is already partly compatible).

these dates are for phones from this carrier with a specific rom customized by the carrier itseft. (usually they take a few weeks to customize their rom)

So you can expect an update for unlocked devices a few weeks earlier !

The Note2 should be a priority!!!

And what with the skipping on the 4.2.2, huh??? At least the customer would be happy if Shamsung update it with 4.2.2 while waiting for 4.3…. Still stuck with 4.1…….

The F#*%$K!!!!! Shit with Korean companies!!!!

Shame on u Shamesung!!!! HTC is way better than this!!!

Who does, except Google? Even Google has only provided two major updates to all its devices (GNex has gotten three, but only 4.1 was major). That’s the thing, no one cares, that’s the sad part in the Android world. :/

we love your phones samsung but you are gaining out of it! we bought s3 for 4.0, note 2 for 4.1, s4 for 4.2 and now note 3 for 4.3? no upgrading the software? we should only upgrade the phone or what!? this is frustrating samsung! release the updates quickly not the phones!

For all of these negative comments, have ANY of you ever stopped to THINK about what goes into these updates, or do you just assume that Google makes it so easy to just drop an update on a phone and make it work so perfectly that no updates will be needed until the next version?

Cyanogenmod and the others may make quick releases, but how long is it until they are actually STABLE, and then, how long before they are stable enough to not need an update for MONTHS? A device maker can’t just drop an update and then send out an update in a week or two, not when carriers get in the way. If an update may brick a phone under rare situations, that isn’t good, so extra testing is needed.

There is an old philosophy that putting a custom firmware on a phone is at the risk of the person doing the update, but if it comes from the device maker, then it is the responsibility of the device maker to make sure it works PROPERLY. That is the difference, and is a huge part of why ALL device makers will delay releasing updates.

Now, there is also the question of what changes came out with 4.2.2 compared to 4.1.2, and then 4.3. The Bluetooth LE that comes with Android 4.3 is significant in terms of getting support for many Bluetooth items, so is a really good reason to get 4.3 out the door. Yes, the Note 2 is going to get 4.3 as well, so no worries there, but you really need to ask, what benefit would we get from an update, and is it enough to make you really complain that it isn’t released yet? 4.2.2 was really tiny and insignificant for a device with Touchwiz when it comes right down to it, so if 4.3 or 4.4 were planned for that device, it makes sense to SKIP 4.2.2. If a device gets 4.2, then chances are that it will never see 4.3 or 4.4.

C’mon Samsung, consumers WOULD NOT purposely switching from S3/Note2 to S4 just because a delay of update but you will make customers lost confident in you. And what’s with skipping 4.2?? at least we would be entertained by having 4.2 update 1st. Nov/Dec is still a prediction, and I bet in the end Samsung will drag it ’til early of next year Jan. Bear in mind Samsung, there are a lot of cheaper phones outside running 4.3 already, even if switching, I WOULD NOT put S4 in consideration, your f**king plan just doesn’t work. Just f**king release the update now!!
