    Introduction

Samsung's Galaxy Tab S9 series for 2023 consists of three models: Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. The Plus variant used to be the uppermost option available in Samsung's high-end tablet lineup, but since Samsung introduced the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra in 2022, that hierarchy changed.

The Galaxy Tab S9+ is now the middle-of-the-road model in terms of size and pricing. Although, as usual, the entire Tab S9 series is powered by the same chipset and offer a similar level of performance. The Galaxy Tab S9+ is for customers who don't want an oversized Ultra model and find the base variant too small.

    Design

The Galaxy Tab S9+ looks exactly similar to the Galaxy Tab S8+ from the front and sides, featuring an aluminum unibody design. But the new tablet has a neat trick up its sleeve: an IP68 rating. Yes, the Galaxy S9+ has dust and water resistance. Even the S Pen that comes with the Galaxy Tab S9+ has an IP68 rating. Another neat change that will ease a user's life is the ability of the S Pen to charge wirelessly regardless of its orientation.

On the rear, the Galaxy Tab S9+ has a simpler design, featuring a dual-camera layout that looks identical to the Galaxy S23 and other Galaxy phones launched in 2023. The cameras have individual rings that look elegant. The Galaxy Tab S9+ comes in two colors: Beige and Graphite.

The tablet uses a stronger version of Aluminum called Armor Aluminum, and its screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The tablet measures 285.4 x 185.4 x 5.7 mm and weighs 586g.

    Specifications

The entire Galaxy Tab S9 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chipset. This chip has a higher frequency for the primary CPU core and the GPU compared to the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The tablet has 12GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage, expandable via microSD.

The tablet comes in Wi-Fi-only and 5G versions. Other connectivity features include GPS, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and USB 3.2 Type-C port. It is powered by a 10,090mAh battery that is compatible with 45W fast charging using the USB PD PPS protocol. Sadly, a charger isn't included in the box. The tablet also features an in-display fingerprint reader.

    Display and cameras

The Galaxy Tab S9+ has a 12.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display featuring QHD+ resolution (2,800 x 1,752 pixels), a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ certification. It also features Vision Booster, a proprietary Samsung technology that adjusts contrast ratio and gamma curves for better color visibility in outdoor conditions.

The camera setup on the Galaxy Tab S9+ has received a slight upgrade. It uses the same 12MP ultrawide front-facing camera and 13MP primary rear-facing camera as the Galaxy Tab S8+, but its rear ultrawide camera has received a resolution bump from 6MP to 8MP. The tablet can record up to 4K 60fps videos using the front and primary rear cameras. The ultrawide camera on the rear can record up to 1080p 60fps videos.

    Software and features

The Galaxy Tab S9+ ships with Android 13 and One UI 5.1.1, and Samsung has promised to release four major Android OS updates to the tablet. It will get the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update near the end of 2023. The tablet will also get five years of security updates.

As for features, the Galaxy Tab S9+ boasts all the productivity and S Pen tools customers have gotten used to, including Samsung DeX (wired and wireless) and apps like Samsung Notes, PENUP, and more. It also brings improved multitasking and productivity features as a part of One UI 5.1.1.

    Availability and price

Samsung has priced the Galaxy Tab S9+ at $999/£999/€1,199 for the 256GB variant. It will be available for pre-order in most countries starting July 26, 2023, the same day it was announced. It will reach store shelves and those who pre-ordered on August 11, 2023.
