Introduction
The Galaxy A14 5G is the first new phone that Samsung released in 2023. It takes the baton from the very popular Galaxy A13 5G that was released back in 2021. The launch came following weeks of leaks and rumors about this budget device.
It's one of the most affordable smartphones in Samsung's lineup and it also happens to be 5G-enabled. Samsung continues to lower the barrier of entry to 5G for customers with attainable devices like the Galaxy A14 5G.
Design
As you'd expect from a device in this segment, the Galaxy A14 5G has a rather simple design and a plastic shell. The camera cutouts at the back are in line with Samsung's 2023 design language. There's an Infinity-V display on the front with sizeable bezels.
The Galaxy A14 5G is offered in Silver, Orange, and Light Blue colors with the device measuring 167.7 x 78 x 9.1 mm and coming in at 202 grams, slightly heavier than its predecessor.
Specifications
The new Exynos 1330 processor powers the Galaxy A14 5G and it's paired with 4/6GB of RAM. The handset is available with 64/128GB of internal storage. There's a microSD card slot that allows for external expansion of up to 1TB.
Just like its predecessor, this smartphone has a 5,000mAh battery that has support for 15W wired charging. This is a bit of a downgrade compared to the outgoing model as the Galaxy A13 supports 25W fast charging. The device doesn't come with a charger in the box.
Display
You'll find a 6.6-inch Full HD+ display on the front. The panel has a 90Hz refresh rate, a welcome upgrade compared to the previous model. The Infinity-V notch is where you'll find the selfie camera.
It's a completely flat display panel as Samsung's curved glass panels rarely ever make their way to entry-level devices.
Camera
The Galaxy A14 5G is equipped with a three camera setup at the back which includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor with 2 megapixel depth and macro sensors. The selfie camera has been upgraded to a 13-megapixel sensor.
Don't expect any breathtaking results from these cameras. However, they should be more than enough for the casual Intagram post.
Software and features
This was Samsung's first phone to come with Android 13 and One UI (Core) 5.0 out of the box. The device already runs the most recent Android OS version for 2023.
However, it won't get any special treatment with regard to software update eligibility. Samsung will only provide two years of Android OS upgrades for this device. Since it launched with Android 13, the Galaxy A14 5G will be supported till Android 15. It will receive four years of security updates.
Availability and price
The Galaxy A14 5G was announced by way of a press release on January 4, 2023. Pricing starts at 229 euro for the basic variant that includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The handset in a wide range of markets including Europe and Asia.
