Samsung is at the top of its game when it comes to releasing software updates for its phones and tablets. All Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series devices receive monthly software updates for at least three years after launch. Galaxy A5x series phones also receive monthly updates. But what about other Galaxy A series devices?

While Samsung promises updates every three months for those devices, it appears to be delivering more frequently.

Most Galaxy A series phones receive two updates every quarter

According to a study by GalaxyClub, mid-range Galaxy phones released since 2022 have received more updates than Samsung’s quarterly update promise. For example, the Galaxy A33, Galaxy A34, Galaxy A35, and Galaxy A36 have received several monthly security updates. The Galaxy A36 has received eight updates since its launch, which is twice the number expected under Samsung’s official update schedule.

The Galaxy A13 5G and the Galaxy A23 have received close to the number of updates Samsung promised. Even so, they still received slightly more updates than expected. The only notable exception is the Galaxy A14 4G, which experienced delays in receiving updates during the first half of 2025.

On average, Galaxy A1x, Galaxy A2x, and Galaxy A3x series phones have received updates roughly once every two months. However, this study is limited to the European market. Update frequency may vary in other regions, but the difference is unlikely to be significant.
