2024 is the year you switch from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy

It seems everyone and their dog is talking about artificial intelligence these days. It's the latest trend on the upswing in the tech industry. We've already started seeing limited implementations of the technology on mobile devices. It's only expected to explode in the new year with the 2024 flagship phones.

Samsung will be leading the 2024 flagship charge with the Galaxy S24 series that's due to be unveiled next month. While some of its Chinese rivals have already launched new flagships based on the leading chipset for next year, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it'll be Samsung that provides the market with the first truly global Android flagship of 2024.

The Korean giant has also been talking up artificial intelligence recently. It has made a big deal of all the AI features in Exynos 2400, the custom chipset that will be used in the Galaxy S24 series. Some markets will also get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 variants, and we've already seen Qualcomm demonstrate remarkable AI features that its new chipset makes possible.

Samsung also unveiled its own generative AI model last month called Samsung Gauss. It's the company's ultimate vision for AI and products based on Gauss will enhance user experience on Samsung's future products. Gauss is capable of understanding human language and generating answers. It can help with tasks such as email writing, translating langauges, editing documents, provide smarter device controls, improved personalization, and more.

There has been a steady stream of information about the AI features that we'll see in the Galaxy S24 series as well. Galaxy AI will be a comprehensive mobile AI experience, providing features such as AI-based live call translation. Those who love personalizing their phones will like the AI-powered wallpaper generator that uses stable diffusion to create unique wallpapers based on the commands you provide.

AI will also help expand images in your gallery with the editor filling in non-existing details, summarize long notes into bullet points in Samsung Notes. Additional AI features will include the ability to erase unwanted objects from videos. Improved artificial intelligence-based video processing will improve low-light camera performance for videos, help with noise reduction, and improved stability.

It's entirely possible that there are other AI features that Samsung will introduce with the Galaxy S24 series. Samsung hasn't made too many official announcements about the AI features it's working on for its next generation smartphones. It understandably wants to save those announcements for the Unpacked event next month where AI will likely take up a big chunk of the presentation.

Samsung has always been quick to adopt new technologies than Apple, its main rival in major markets such as North America and Europe. The company has already been dominating the foldable phone market for a few years now even as there's no sign of Apple even considering a foldable iPhone. Samsung also brought 5G to its Galaxy phones before Apple adopted 5G for iPhones. Apple is known for taking its time to do things, even if the delay is just for dramatic effect and not as much for market maturity as it would like us to believe.

That is likely the approach Apple will take towards AI features as well. Even as all Android manufacturers rush to get AI features out on their phones next year, Apple may take a year or two to bring similar functionality for its iPhone. That's got to be frustrating for a lot of iPhone users as they'll be unable to use the AI features they're reading about anywhere.

Perhaps this is why Samsung might be feeling that being swift with its AI features gives it a great opportunity to capture some of Apple's loyal customers. By making AI the focus of its Galaxy S24 series, the company will offer a flagship phone next month with more advanced capabilities that the latest iPhone that's only a couple of months old at this point and won't get a successor until the second half of 2024.

Samsung's push won't just be limited to the Galaxy S24 series either. We can certainly expect similar, if not greater, AI capabilities on the flagship Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip flagships due in summer 2024. We may even see the company bring some features to its premium mid-range devices such as the A5x series and the FE lineup of devices in the second half of the year.

As things stand, Samsung's 2024 lineup seems to be the best option for iPhone customers to experience the potential of AI. There's no point for them to drown in FOMO when the Galaxy lineup provides all of that, and much more, even in the foldable form factor.
