In the United States, Google has been offering picture-in-picture (PIP) on YouTube for free since 2022. However, in other regions, the company still offers this feature as a part of the Premium subscription. Well, that seems to be finally changing.
According to Android Police and reports on Reddit, Google has been offering picture-in-picture on YouTube to some of the free users in Europe for the last couple of weeks. Reportedly, the latest change is available on Android as well as iOS devices.
Google hasn’t made an announcement on the matter. In fact, the company still says that you will require YouTube Premium to access PIP in regions other than the US. So, is it possible that people have been able to access the feature for free due to a bug? Well, we can’t say anything for sure until Google clarifies the matter.
It is worth mentioning that you need to turn on picture-in-picture manually. You can do that by going to YouTube, clicking on the profile icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen, tapping the Settings icon at the top-right corner of the screen, clicking on General, and activating picture-in-picture. If Google has indeed started offering PIP for free in Europe, it could make the feature available for free in other regions gradually.
