YouTube has now gotten a lot of podcast channels, and running such videos at boosted playback speeds is sometimes convenient. YouTube already lets you boost the playback speed from 1x to 2x. However, you have to go through a few layers of options to access the playback speed option. Thankfully, that is going to change soon.

According to the latest report, Google is working on allowing users to quickly boost the playback speed of YouTube videos by 2x via a new gesture. Currently, on mobile, you need to tap the Settings icon, select the Playback speed menu, and then choose the playback speed. With the new change that YouTube is currently testing, users can long-press the screen to watch videos at 2x.

Once the feature is activated, you will get a ‘Playback at 2x speed' message at the top of the video. On the web, when you let go of your mouse or trackpad, the video will be paused. On Android and iOS, the video will continue to play when you lift your finger, canceling the gesture.

If you wish to try out this new feature that lets you quickly boost the playback speed of YouTube videos to 2x, you must get a YouTube Premium subscription. Besides, you can enable it from here, and it is available to test until August 13, 2023, and it may become a permanent feature in the future.
