Just a couple of weeks before the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Xiaomi has launched a competing flip device. It is called the MIX Flip 2, and it was launched in China yesterday with a big silicon carbon battery and faster charging speeds. However, it lacks a critical feature that could have offered a peace of mind to buyers.
Yesterday, Xiaomi launched a bunch of new products, including phones, wearables, and even a new electric car, in China. The MIX Flip 2 is its latest flip-style foldable phone, and it was launched alongside Xiaomi's high-end tablet (Pad 7S Pro), smart fitness band (Band 10), smartwatch (Watch S4), gaming tablet (Redmi K Pad), and a value-for-money phone (Redmi K80 Ultra).
The MIX Flip 2 has a 4-inch edge-to-edge cover screen, similar to what is expected from the Galaxy Z Flip 7. It has a 6.86-inch inner foldable screen, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB storage, and a 5,165mAh silicon carbon battery. Its battery capacity is 20% higher than the Galaxy Z Flip 7's rumored 4,300mAh battery. It also charges much faster, thanks to 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
However, it lacks any official IP rating, which means it doesn't have any form of dust or water resistance. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will come with at least an IP47 rating for dirt and water resistance, as the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has the same rating. There is even a possibility of Samsung offering a better IP rating for its upcoming flip phone.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is said to feature a 4-inch edge-to-edge cover screen, a 6.85-inch inner foldable screen, 3nm Exynos 2500 chip, 12GB RAM, 256GB/512GB storage, and a 4,300mAh battery. It has 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging with the Qi2 Ready certification. It has a 50MP+12MP dual-camera setup on the rear and a 10MP selfie camera. It can record 4K 60fps videos using all its cameras.
Both phones have similar-sized screens, 3nm chips, dual-camera setups, and Android 15. Xiaomi's flip phone has a bigger battery, faster charging, 8K 24fps video recording from rear cameras, and a higher memory option. However, it lacks an IP rating, which is critical in offering a peace of mind since foldable phones have moving parts.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also thinner and lighter than its rival from Xiaomi. Moreover, Xiaomi hasn't announced any plans to launch the MIX Flip 2 outside of China. So, Samsung won't face any threat from Xiaomi's new flip phone.
