Stainless steel on Galaxy Note 10? Samsung now says it’s metal

The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ do not have a stainless steel frame. When Samsung first published the Galaxy Note 10 introduction video, it talked about how “stainless steel and glass meld seamlessly to minimize bezel” on the new flagships, but it has now uploaded an updated video that makes no mention of stainless steel.

And it seems someone in the marketing team didn’t get the memo that they’d be updating that video, as the older video is still online on YouTube. It’s not just the official introduction video that talked about the stainless steel. It was also mentioned on the Galaxy Note 10 website, and Samsung has now replaced “high-polish stainless steel” with “high-polish metal.” Nothing else seems to have changed, thankfully, so there’s probably no need to worry that some other advertised features may not be available, either.

Or at least we hope there isn’t. The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are already under fire from longtime Galaxy Note fans for stripping features like a headphone jack and then giving unsatisfactory reasons for doing so. The Korean giant also took down some of its ads mocking Apple about forcing dongles and notches on iPhone customers, something Samsung itself is guilty of doing with this year’s flagship devices.

Check out the old and new videos below and tell us in the comments whether you’re okay with having an aluminum frame on the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ or if you would have liked to see stainless steel as Samsung had incorrectly touted earlier.

“having an aluminum frame on”

So it is metal of aluminium ?

What is the diff between steel and metal ?

Samsung have confirmed to me that the frame on the Note10s are Aluminium. Not stainless steel.

Stainless steel seemed a bonus, but didn’t figure into my ultimate purchase decision. I’d have pre-ordered the plus regardless. It does leave me confused about what exactly the alloy is and why Samsung misrepresented it.

Update : I have been able to see my colleagues Note10 plus he got yesterday, arrived from Istanbul last night. I’m not sure exactly what this metal is, but it doesn’t have the feel of aluminium. It has that hard and cold feel of stainless steel and feels denser than the aluminium frames I’ve seen, but what it is, I don’t know, except it does look and feel very premium. I’ll be honest and say I’m more impressed that I thought I’d be and might even go a year early and trade in my S9 plus. The screen is amazing… Read more »

Yeah, the speakers on the s10/s10+ and note 10 are a really big upgrade vs the last year (so I hear by all sources + decent amount of own experience).

Yes, I heard the S10 and S10 plus too, my niece and her husband have them. It’s really top class. My S9 plus is pretty good, but not as loud or clear. I’ve been complaining about some aspects of the Note10 plus but when I actually got to use it for 10 minutes I was really impressed. Not sure if just my imagination but I really felt that 12gb of ram was, making everything super zippy. There’s actually pre release software on it and it’s missing a few features, for example reverse wireless charge to charge your watch or whatever… Read more »

You can also check the second hand market as the s9+ still holds value there and maybe you can squeeze a little more. 12GB RAM does make a difference, especially if you game a lot, use DEX, not to mention about the linux (officially supported from samsung) that runs on the note and can benefit big time from more RAM + in general android/android apps love more RAM than ios. From there if you checked on the exynos 9825 version – it’s decent and you will surely see a speed bump over 9810 (let’s be honest, 9810 was really lacking… Read more »

Yes, I heard that but to be honest I couldn’t be bothered, it’s easier to just trade it in with Samsung against a new one. There’s free Galaxy Buds as well which is nice.

So he got demo unit ?

Gunter2

No, full retail unit but with pre release software on it. It’s a corporate account and his firm buys a lot of Samsung equipment, not just phones so as the MD he tend to get some things early. He got the Note9 a few weeks early last year too. Lucky him!

I Noticed this straight away and went straight to Samsung about it – got no response… it is the weekend though. might give them a day or two more to respond

straight to Samsung store ?

So this means, the next Samsung flagship phones, could have the stainless steel. Probably S11 or Note11

Less reason to get one I guess. No snapdragon 855+, no 90 hz, no headphone jack, 1080p on standard version, slow software updates, but they want to charge a high price for it? NEXT…

Note10 should not exist, but Note10+ in my opinion is really good despite the missing headphone jack.

SWIZZBEATZ

I don’t agree. The normal version is for people who don’t want a big ass phone. The note 10 plus is big. The one plus 7 pro is huge but the note 10 plus is bigger. I used the normal note 10 this afternoon and it’s a sleek phone.

I disagree. There are people who want to use a stylus but normally find the Note devices too big. My complaint would be that despite the price, they didn’t put a QHD screen on it and that makes it too expensive. At 1080p, €800 would be ok. At the price it is, it should have had a full resolution display.

kfzhu1229
kfzhu1229

Well if you compare the regular Note 10 to the pricing of a regular Galaxy S10… You are paying a lot more for the s-pen and the loss of everything else. Just get an older note and a Galaxy S10

aroutis
aroutis

I do agree. On the other hand, one has to ponder, if they priced it at say $800, it would eat away from the sales of the Note 10+ , is it why they did not place it on that price range ? Hm…

siaho
siaho

Nope, they did it so:
A) note 10+ is the obvious choice and everyone will consider that phone and on top of that would not notice the big price increase vs the previous year note
B) if someone decides regardless to buy the normal note 10 – it’s super overpriced and samsung will receive a great profit from every single one of those

Simple. The normal note 10 is worse phone vs the s10+ if we exclude the spen, but if someone needs the spen – the note 10+ is so much better choice for the pen, it’s use and so on.

siaho
siaho

This, they should either bump up the specs big time (note 10+ level or really close to it) or release it on a lot lower price. It’s overprised currently and that 1080p display.. samsung didn’t put 1080p display in their flagship phones for years.

Galaxy Notice

Most people dont care about the headphone jack or the fact that the screen is 1080p.

Gunter2
Gunter2

They should clarify what exactly it is. It doesn’t look like aluminium. It may be a ferrous alloy with another metal such as zirconium, copper, or a number of other possibilities. However we should know what it is! Having said that, no matter what it is, don’t drop it! Lol. I’m sure the upcoming jerryrigeverything bend test will tell us all about its structural strength. 🙂

I wondered why I was seemingly renotified of the introduction video being uploaded! I definitely would’ve wanted stainless steel.

The “Old” commercial has been removed by Samsung…
Luckely we’d “saved” it 🙂
