Over the years, Viettel has created a network infrastructure to offer 4G services to 97% of the population. Now, the company has started upgrading its equipment to offer 5G services. The company has been operating 5G networks trials in 10 cities and provinces, including Ba Ria–Vung Tau, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Thua Thien–Hue, and Vinh Phuc. People in these regions can use 5G networks for free with unlimited capacity.
Viettel is using Samsung Network's 4G and 5G network equipment, and people have been experiencing average 5G data speeds of 600-700Mbps. Depending on network congestion and signal strength, download speeds can go as high as 1Gbps in some regions. For the commercial 5G trials in Da Nang, the operator is using Samsung's baseband, 64T64R Massive MIMO radios, and mid-band spectrum radios.
Samsung's 64T64R 5G Massive MIMO radio can offer high data speeds in highly congested areas. The company also makes end-to-end 5G solutions, including 5G core, 5G vRAN, 5G antennas, and AI-based network automation and management tools.
