Samsung is testing a new major One UI update on its latest foldable phones. The new Galaxy Z Fold 4 test firmware found on Samsung's servers carries version F936NKSU1DWB9, while the live One UI 5.1 build is identified by firmware version F936NKSU1CWB1 (in South Korea).
The one element confirming that this new test build is a major One UI update is that the letter “C” in the firmware number was replaced by the letter “D.” As we detailed in our Samsung firmware guide, a change in the fourth-to-last letter indicates a notable upgrade in the version of One UI or Android OS.
As of this writing, there's no way to determine which version of One UI Samsung is working on for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. But Samsung is certainly in the process of testing the next big update. It could be One UI 5.1.1 based on Android 13, One UI 6.0 based on Android 14, or any other version between One UI 5.1 and 6.0.
Regarding availability, it's hard to tell when this new One UI update might get a public release. If it's the next step in the One UI 5 saga built on top of Android 13, it should roll out sooner rather than later. But if it uses Android 14 as its foundation and calls itself One UI 6.0, it could hit the waves later in the year. Google is now testing Android 14, but a public launch on Samsung smartphones won't happen anytime soon.
