Samsung is working on a smartwatch that doesn't run Wear OS

We recently reported that the Galaxy Fit 4 could launch soon with upgraded wireless connectivity. Now, we have discovered that Samsung is working on a new smartwatch that could be priced above the Galaxy Fit 4 but below the Galaxy Watch FE. It also appears that the device will not run Wear OS.

We found references to a new Samsung wearable called Galaxy Aero. It runs an RTOS, or real-time operating system, which is typically used on lower-priced devices such as the Galaxy Fit 4. It is unclear whether the device will have a circular, rectangular, or square display. However, it appears to have a screen, as Samsung refers to it as “galaxy_rtos_watch” in the Galaxy Wearable app's codebase.

If it is priced above the Galaxy Fit 4, it will likely feature the usual sensors found on most smartwatches, including an accelerometer, gyroscope, and heart rate monitor.

Smartwatches that run RTOS usually use less powerful processors and can generally last at least a week on a single charge. We can expect similar battery life from the Galaxy Aero. Samsung could ultimately launch it under a different name, as Galaxy Aero may be only the device's internal codename.

We can also confirm that the Galaxy Buds Able, which recently leaked with a clip-on design, will be called the Galaxy Buds On.
