Samsung is facing yet another patent troll in the US. This time, the South Korean firm is facing allegations of infringing display-related patents owned by Tau Ceti Ventures LLC. The company claims Samsung used its core LED and MicroLED patents without obtaining a license.
South Korean publication The Biz reports that Tau Ceti Ventures LLC, a US-based Non-Practicing Entity (NPE), has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The lawsuit claims that multiple Samsung laptops, monitors, smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and TVs use its patented display technologies, which are designed to make displays brighter, prevent screen burn-in, improve battery life, and reduce manufacturing costs.
The lawsuit targets the Samsung devices listed below.
According to the lawsuit, these products use technologies covered by the following Tau Ceti Ventures LLC patents:
Tau Ceti Ventures LLC is asking the court to rule that Samsung infringed its patents and award financial damages. The company has also requested enhanced damages, alleging that Samsung’s infringement was willful. Earlier this year, it filed similar lawsuits against HP and LG over the same patents.
