Samsung has launched a new kids-focused tablet in the US: Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition. The new tablet is now available for purchase in the US through AT&T.

The new tablet is based on the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite that was launched in 2021, which means that it has the same core features as the standard version of the tablet. That includes an 8.7-inch display, a MediaTek Helio P22T processor, at least 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and a 5,100mAh battery. However, the new tablet comes with few additions over the standard version, making it kid-friendly.

Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition has a rugged design and a 360-degree kickstand

First and foremost, the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition has a rugged outer shell along with a thick lip around the screen for protection against bumps and drops so that it can withstand rough and carefree usage by kids. There’s also a kickstand that can rotate 360 degrees so that your kids can look at the content on the display hands-free from virtually any angle. The kickstand also doubles up as a handle to carry the tablet.

AT&T and Samsung have also added a few software features to the tablet to make it kid-friendly. To that end, it comes pre-loaded with the Samsung Kids App. It helps you in controlling how your kids use the tablet. That includes the ability to limit contacts, apps, and media the kids can access and the amount of time they can use the tablet. The app also gives you a usage report to track how your kid is spending time on the device.

The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition costs $7/month on AT&T, and you’ll have to pay this monthly installment over the course of 36 months. That makes up for a total retail price of around $250. That's steep pricing when you consider that the standard version of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite is now retailing for around $109. Anyway, the new tablet goes on sale in the US on November 4.

The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition faces direct competition from the Amazon Fire 8 HD Kids, which costs $180. Although the one from AT&T and Samsung costs significantly more, it also offers Google Play Store, which the Amazon Fire 8 HD Kids lacks.
