Samsung sells a lot of mid-range smartphones every year. A large part of its smartphone revenue comes from devices like the Galaxy A33 5G and the Galaxy A53 5G. But Samsung may cancel one device from its premium mid-range segment next year.

According to a new report from our friends at GalaxyClub, Samsung may not launch the Galaxy A74 in 2023. Usually, information about the design and specifications of Samsung's Galaxy A series phones leaks towards the end of the year, a few months before their announcement. And that has been the case for the Galaxy A14 5G, Galaxy A24, Galaxy A34 5G, and Galaxy A54. However, no information about the Galaxy A74 has leaked, raising questions about its existence.

Samsung could simplify its smartphone lineup by not launching the Galaxy A74

If this is the case, the Galaxy A54 will become Samsung's priciest mid-range smartphone. The company could simplify its smartphone lineup, which is great for consumers and the South Korean firm's software development teams. This could also mean that Samsung might fill the gap left by the Galaxy A74 and the Galaxy S22 FE with the vanilla Galaxy S22 (a viable alternative after its price drops).

Previous reports have revealed that the Galaxy A54 will feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an in-display fingerprint reader. It will feature a 50MP primary camera (possibly with OIS) and a 12MP ultrawide camera. We expect the phone to feature OIS, a 32MP selfie camera, and 4K video recording.

Samsung is also bringing a much faster processor to the Galaxy A54: Exynos 1380. It has four high-performance CPU cores compared to two on the Exynos 128s used in the Galaxy A53 5G. It also features the decently powerful Mali-G68 GPU. The device could also feature 5G, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, a USB Type-C port, stereo speakers, and an IP68 rating. It is powered by a 5,100mAh battery.

The smartphone cancellation that could be one of Samsung’s best decisions in 2023

A few years back, the mainstream Samsung Galaxy A flagships were the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7. We then got devices like the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A9, and since 2019, Samsung's main mid-range offerings have been Galaxy A5x and Galaxy 7x smartphones. And before 2022, the Galaxy A5x and Galaxy A7x smartphones […]
