The Galaxy A22 5G is one of Samsung's most affordable 5G phones of the year, while the Galaxy A52 5G is probably the best all-around value-for-money Galaxy A phone on the market right now. We took a closer look at the 4G variants side-by-side a couple of days ago, and now, we're pitting the 5G models against one another.

To save you the suspense, here's the conclusion: The Galaxy A52 — whether its 4G and 5G — is more powerful than the Galaxy A22, but more importantly, it boasts higher build quality with an IP67 rating, stereo speakers, and 25W fast charging.

So, it's no mystery that the Galaxy A52 5G is technically superior to the Galaxy A22 5G. After all, it's positioned higher up in the food chain and its higher price reflects that. But regardless, if you are looking for a closer side-by-side comparison between these two devices, look no further. Keep reading and check our device comparison widget below for more technical details.

    Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: Display

Both the Galaxy A22 5G and the Galaxy A52 5G are a part of Samsung's new generation of devices with high refresh rate displays. The A22 5G's 6.6-inch screen has a 90Hz refresh rate while the A52 5G gets a 6.5-inch 120Hz panel. The difference between 90Hz and 120Hz isn't all that huge, but the A52 5G does offer a key advantage as far as the viewing experience is concerned.

The A52 5G has an AMOLED panel instead of a TFT one, which means considerably punchier colors, higher brightness levels, and wider viewing angles. The TFT panels employed by Samsung for its mid-range phones aren't all that bad, but they most certainly do not match the quality of the company's AMOLED screens. The A52 5G also has smaller bezels around the screen thanks to the more modern Infinity-O design.

    Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: Cameras

The Galaxy A22 5G has a different camera configuration than the 4G model. It's a triple camera setup comprising a 48MP main shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, a 5MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide camera, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. It lacks a macro camera, and the selfie sensor has a resolution of 8MP and can record 1080p@30fps videos.

The Galaxy A52 5G is one of Samsung's very few mid-range phones that boast a 64MP main camera with OIS and PDAF. It's accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide camera, and two 5MP depth and macro cameras. The selfie sensor boasts a resolution of 32MP and can record 4K videos.

Galaxy A22 5G vs Galaxy A52 5G: Hardware and software

The lower-cost Galaxy A22 5G uses a chipset from MediaTek, namely the Dimensity 700 5G SoC with eight CPU cores and a Mali-G57 MC2 graphics chip.

The Galaxy A52 5G has the Snapdragon 750G chipset with eight cores and an Adreno 619 GPU. The Snapdragon solution is superior in regards to performance, and it's paired with 6GB of RAM at minimum.

The Galaxy A52 5G has 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage, while the Galaxy A22 5G has 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of built-in memory.

The Galaxy A22 5G has a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging. It's larger by 500mAh than the Galaxy A52 5G battery, but it has slower charging (by 10W). Either way, the Galaxy A52 has amazing battery life, and only time will tell if the Galaxy A22 will be able to match it.

Beyond the internal hardware, the Galaxy A52 5G benefits from stereo speakers and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The cheaper Galaxy A model has a side-mounted sensor instead.

As for software, both phones run Android 11 and version 3.1 of Samsung One UI on top, but the Galaxy A52 offers a much more complete user experience and will benefit from three major Android OS updates instead of two.

Your Galaxy A52 will become unsafe to use relatively soon

If you're still rocking the Galaxy A52 in 2024, you've extracted almost every ounce of value out of Samsung's mid-range phone, and you deserve some recognition for pushing the company's firmware support claims this close to the limit. But a limit you will hit sooner than later. Even if you're still happy with how the […]
