Introduction

The Galaxy A22 5G was Samsung's cheapest 5G smartphone ever, at least at the time of its unveiling. There might not be a cheaper 5G smartphone from Samsung by the end of 2021. Apart from 5G connectivity, the Galaxy A22 5G also features a big display, a decently fast processor, a flexible multi-camera system, and a big battery. It should be a good choice for anyone looking to buy an affordable 5G smartphone.

Design

Samsung's 2021 design language for mid-range smartphones is apparent when you look at the Galaxy A22 5G. It has a plastic body, but the phone still looks attractive, thanks to its sleek and clean design. There is a bezel-less screen at the front, and it comes in exciting colors: grey, mint, violet, and white. At the rear, the phone has a quad-camera setup arranged in a square island. Unlike previous mid-range phones, though, the new device has a side-mounted fingerprint reader embedded into the power button.

The phone has a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom. Its power and volume buttons are on the right. The phone's left side houses the nano-SIM card slot. The Galaxy A22 5G weighs 203g and measures 167.2 x 76.4 x 9mm.

Specifications

The Galaxy A22 5G sports a 6.6-inch IPS LCD Infinity-V display that has Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 700 processor, which has two CPU cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six CPU cores running at 2GHz. It is available in four versions: 4GB+64GB, 4GB+128GB, 6GB+128GB, and 8GB+128GB. There's a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to an additional 1TB.

The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that should easily last an entire day even with heavy usage. It is compatible with 15W fast charging. Connectivity features of the phone include GPS, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

Camera

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A22 5G with four cameras, three on the rear and one at the front. Its selfie camera has a resolution of 8MP, an F2.0 aperture, and it can record 1080p videos. At the rear, it has a 48MP primary camera (F1.8) with autofocus, a 5MP ultrawide camera (F2.2), and a 2MP depth sensor (F2.4). The primary rear-facing camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps.

Software and Features

The Galaxy A22 5G was launched with Android 11 out of the box, running Samsung's One UI 3.1 on top. It might get major Android OS updates for two years and an additional year of security patches. The phone also features Samsung Knox and Samsung Pay.

Price and Availability

The Galaxy A22 5G costs €230 in European markets and the phone will be available for purchase sometime in July 2021.
