Samsung considers adding cameras to Galaxy Buds

Samsung’s latest set of flagship wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 3 and the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, are one of the best wireless earbuds in the market, offering cutting-edge features. However, the South Korean tech giant is planning to develop a version of the Galaxy Buds that will offer much more advanced features.

According to a new report by Mark Gurman on Bloomberg (via 9To5Google), Samsung is considering developing Galaxy Buds with cameras. Unfortunately, that’s all it says about the product. However, the other details it reveals, sheds light on what the cameras on the upcoming earbuds might do.

Apple and Meta are also developing wireless earbuds with cameras

The publication claims that Meta is also developing wireless earbuds with cameras, called ‘Camera Buds’. They will “let users look at an object and ask the earbuds to analyze the item.” However, these cameras seem to offer poor viewing angles and suffer from visibility problems when people with long hair use them. As such, these might be canceled and never hit the market.

Apple too has been working on AirPods with infrared cameras. Reportedly, the Cupertino-based tech giant will use the cameras to recognize in-air hand gestures, allowing people to control a lot of things with much more ease compared to using the touch-based controls on the current generation of AirPods. The feature might also assist people navigate the Apple Vision Pro.

Galaxy Buds with cameras might act as an alternative to smart glasses and make it easier to use Samsung's XR headset

Looking at Apple’s and Meta’s approach towards wireless earbuds with cameras, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds with cameras might act as a stop gap alternative to smart glasses, allowing people to know about things they see, as well as letting them control the company’s upcoming XR headset, the Project Moohan, with much more ease. However, those are just our speculations.

Even if Samsung plans to go ahead with the development of Galaxy Buds with cameras, it will take the company a long period of time to develop them as they will be one of the first of their kind. So, don’t expect to see them anytime soon.

On a related topic, yesterday we learned that Samsung might showcase the Project Moohan XR headset at the Galaxy Unpacked event today (or tomorrow, depending on where you live), where the company will launch the Galaxy S25 series.
