Moto Razr (2022) is coming to Europe but costs more than the Z Flip 4

Motorola’s new flip phone, the Moto Razr (2022), is coming to Europe, but as they say, it might be dead on arrival. The new Moto Razr had one chance to compete with Samsung’s popular Galaxy Z Flip 4, and that was through a competitive price. Unfortunately, for Motorola fans, the new Razr appears to have botched it.

The Moto Razr (2022) will reportedly go on sale in Europe for a price higher than €1,200, which means it will be more expensive than the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the latter of which starts at €1,099. (via @rquandt)

Higher price for a worse user experience

Nostalgia won’t carry the Moto Razr (2022) this time around. The phone looks nothing like the first foldable Razr model released in 2019, and it certainly doesn’t resemble the original Razr V3 feature flip phone that started it all almost two decades ago.

As for specifications, the Moto Razr (2022) has higher resolution cameras than the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but not much else. As mentioned before, the phone lacks water resistance, it doesn’t have an armor aluminum frame or UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass), and there are no Flex Mode software features to maximize the advantages of the flip form factor. It can’t come close to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in terms of durability, and the phone runs MYUI 4.0 rather than One UI 4.1.1.

So, the Razr (2022) doesn’t tickle anyone’s nostalgia bone to justify its high price, and it can’t really outshine the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in terms of features and the overall user experience. Yet, according to the latest, the device is coming to Europe for a higher price than Samsung’s solution. €1,200 is nothing to sneeze at, and prospective foldable phone buyers who are already reluctant to commit to this new foldable technology won’t find anything appealing about the Moto Razr (2022) if they’ve already passed on the Samsung Flip series.

Motorola’s device might define the term “dead on arrival,” and it’s a bit of a shame, considering the brand power “Razr” used to have and the fact that Samsung has yet to face a worthy competitor in the flip foldable phone market.
