The latest flagship smartphones from Apple, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, feature three rear cameras, main, ultrawide, and telephoto. The main camera has 48 megapixels resolution, whereas, the ultrawide and telephoto cameras have 12MP resolution. According to a recent report, the iPhone 16 Pro models will offer 48MP resolution for the ultrawide camera as well. Now, another report claims that the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature a 48MP resolution for the telephoto camera too.

The latest news comes from Jeff Pu (via MacRumors), who is Managing Director at Haitong International Securities and is known for reporting about upcoming products from Apple. According to him, the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature a telephoto camera with 48MP resolution. If that turns out to be true, the iPhone 17 Pro models will be the first set of smartphones from Apple to feature 48MP resolution for all three rear cameras.

At the moment, there’s no other information available about this telephoto camera, including the level of optical zoom it will offer. With higher resolution, expect the telephoto camera on the iPhone 17 Pro models to offer better picture quality, including a higher amount of details, compared to that from the current models. Apple will most likely unveil the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025, which means that there are still two years to go, and Apple could change its plan in the meantime. So, don’t hold your breath.
