The current stable version of the Google app for Android has a search bar placed at the top of the screen, which makes it hard for people to access it with one-handed usage on devices with large screens. Well, the company seems to be working on solving this issue. According to a new report from TheSpAndroid, Google is testing a bottom-mounted search bar in the latest beta version of the Google app (v14.48.26.29.arm64).

According to the screenshots shared by the publication, the search bar is placed right above the navigation buttons. This change makes accessing the search bar easier during one-handed usage on devices with large displays. At the moment, there’s no information on Google's plans to bring the new layout to the stable version of the app. If the company decides to go ahead, it will roll it out to the public in the next few weeks.

With the average size of displays on smartphones increasing day by day, it is time for companies and developers to move the navigation buttons, search bars, and other such UI elements from the top to the bottom of the screen. Most apps on iOS already follow this design philosophy in spite of screens on even the largest Apple iPhone models aren’t as big as those on some of the Android devices, such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
