Galaxy Z Flip 5 is getting a huge practical upgrade

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is widely regarded as the best flip-style smartphone available right now. However, it now has a proper competitor, the OPPO Find N2 Flip, featuring better specifications and a £100 cheaper price tag. One of its main talking points is its bigger cover display, and Samsung seems to have taken notice.

According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a cover screen bigger than the OPPO Find N2 Flip. While the tipster hasn't revealed the exact size of the Galaxy Z Flip 5's cover display, the Find N2 Flip has a 3.26-inch screen on the outside. So, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a cover display bigger than that. But just a bigger screen won't be enough. The company needs to add more functionality to make it more useful.

Galaxy Z Flip 5's bigger cover display also needs to be more feature-rich

With the Galaxy Z Flip 4's cover display, you can adjust quick settings, check the time and weather, capture images, check notifications, reply to messages, use certain widgets, and pay for things. But you can't use any apps on that tiny 1.9-inch display on the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Motorola's RAZR flip phone lets you use almost all the apps on its external display. It would be great if Samsung also brought similar functionality to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. That would make the phone more usable without opening, improving its battery life and hinge longevity.

Apart from the bigger cover screen, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also said to feature a teardrop-shaped hinge, similar to what we've seen on foldable phones from Chinese brands. It will help the phone shut completely flat and leave no gap between the two halves. It will also make the crease on the foldable screen less visible.

A bigger cover screen, a better hinge mechanism, a faster processor, and camera upgrades would make the Galaxy Z Flip 5 a perfect foldable phone. If Samsung can also increase its battery capacity, it would be like a cherry on the cake. But only time will tell what Samsung actually brings to the tablet with its next-generation foldable phone.
