Samsung has released a new software update to the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The update was released in India and other Asian countries a couple of weeks ago, and it is now rolling out in European countries. It just brings a new security patch to the smartwatches.
A new software update with firmware version R86xXXU1IYCD (non-LTE) and R87xXXU1IYCD (LTE) is rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 4 in Europe. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is getting the same update with firmware versions R88xXXU1IYCD (non-LTE) and R89xXU1IYCD (LTE) in the region.
The update brings the March 2025 security patch to these smartwatches to make them more secure compared to earlier. It has a download size of around 450MB but doesn't include any new features or performance improvements.
If you are living in Europe and have a Galaxy Watch 4 series smartwatch, you can install the new update by opening the Wearable app on your phone and navigating to Watch Settings » Watch Software update » Download and install. Once the update is downloaded, tap the Install now button.
The Galaxy Watch 4 series was launched in August 2021 with One UI 3 Watch (Wear OS 3) onboard. It received the One UI 4.5 Watch (Wear OS 3.5) update in August 2022 and the One UI 5 Watch (Wear OS 4) update in August 2023. In mid-2024, the smartwatches received even more features with the One UI 6 Watch (Wear OS 5) update.
It isn't clear if the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will get the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch update. But if they do, it will be the last Wear OS update for those devices.
