Samsung has just launched the Galaxy S25 series. All three phones in the lineup—Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra—come with many improvements over their predecessors. While only the top-of-the-line model offers an upgraded rear camera setup, all three phones have new software camera features.

One of the most interesting features is the ability to record videos in a logarithmic (log) profile, which is great for creators. However, if you haven't heard of it before and are wondering what the log mode does and how it benefits you, here’s everything you need to know.

    What is a log video?

A video recorded in a log profile offers a higher amount of detail and a higher dynamic range compared to videos recorded in standard or neutral profiles. Does that mean you should record all videos in a log profile? Well, it isn’t that simple.

Log videos have a flat color profile. In other words, colors in videos recorded in a log profile look dull, washed out, and lifeless. But that’s for a reason. It allows people to give these videos a specific look or style during post-production.

Check out our hands-on video of the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ below.

That means you will have to use video editing applications to edit the colors of log videos to bring the best out of them. If it’s making you think that a log profile is made for professionals, you are correct.

As you might have understood by now, while log videos have more details and a wider dynamic range, they look dull when you play them without correcting their color. For the best results, you will not only need advanced apps but also learn how to edit these videos (especially about color profiles) and spend a considerable amount of time editing them.

Unless you are ready to do all that, you should record videos with the log mode disabled.

How to record videos in the log format on the Galaxy S25 series?

To record videos in the log format, open the Camera app, navigate to the video mode, open settings, tap on Advanced video options, and turn on Log. You will also have the option to get the log mode only in the Pro video mode or in the standard video mode as well. Choose an option that you like.

Once you do that, your Galaxy S25 will show you a ‘LOG’ button in the camera viewfinder. Tapping it will enable log mode.

Now when you record a video (at any resolution), it will be recorded with a log profile. Note that the videos recorded in the log mode are saved as HEVC files, and you can play them in the Gallery app.

Galaxy S25 can automatically edit log videos to make them look colorful

What if you record a video in the log mode with the intention to correct its color but then don’t feel like doing it and just want it to look like a standard video? Well, in that case, Samsung has you covered.

The Galaxy S25 series phone gives you an option in the gallery for log videos called Correct color, which automatically fixes the colors in log videos. To access this option, you can navigate to a log video in the gallery, swipe up, then hit the Correct color button.
