Last month, we reported that Samsung’s Android 16-based One UI 8.0 for the Galaxy S25 brings Android 15’s Predictive Back to Samsung’s stock applications. However, a newer build of the OS lacked the feature. While it was disappointing, we speculated that it could be temporary and Samsung may bring back the feature in a newer version of the OS. Well, we were right.

A few hours ago, Samsung released the second beta version of One UI 8 for Galaxy S25, and it packs Predictive Back (via @GerwinvGiessen). The brand is calling it Back Swipe Preview, and you have to activate it manually. You can do so by going to Settings » Advanced Features » Labs. However, there’s a catch. Back Swipe Preview works only in Settings and not in apps.

What is One UI 8's Back Swipe Preview?

The description of Back Swipe Preview reads “Show a preview of the screen you’ll go back to when you start swiping from the edge of the screen.” In other words, when you start swiping from the left to the right edge of the screen to go back, the preview pulls the current window to the right, and in the background, it shows a preview of the previous screen.

We hope that Samsung makes Back Swipe Preview work with applications, too, with the next beta or the stable release of the OS.
