Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series offers many new software features for the rear cameras over its predecessor. One of them is the ability to record videos in a logarithmic (LOG) profile, which we've talked about in detail here. Well, Samsung may offer that feature to the Galaxy S24 series with a software update.
Tipster Tarun Vats claims that Samsung will offer the ability to capture videos in a log profile to the Galaxy S24 Ultra with Android 15-based One UI 7.0 (we are assuming that he is talking about the stable version of the software as the beta is already here and it doesn’t offer the feature), and to the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24+ with Android 16-based One UI 8.0.
To give you a quick summary, videos with a logarithmic profile have flat colors which makes it easy for creators to give the content the look/style that they want. Plus, these videos have a higher dynamic range compared to the regular videos.
Since recording videos in the LOG format requires additional hardware processing power, people weren’t expecting Samsung to offer it to older devices. Well, the tipster suggests otherwise, but unfortunately, it will be limited to the Galaxy S24 series.
However, the news should be taken with a pinch of salt as the development of One UI 8.0 might be in the early stages and nothing is confirmed yet. So, there’s a possibility that Samsung may decide to skip offering this feature to older phones due to various reasons.
