The upcoming Galaxy S22 update was confirmed by the Samsung Community moderator who's in charge of camera updates. When a Community member asked if the Galaxy S22 Ultra or S22 series will get smooth camera zoom animations akin to the Galaxy S23, the moderator confirmed: “S22 model will be supported.”
Samsung hasn't revealed when the smoother camera zoom animations will go live. However, the company may bring this improvement to the Galaxy S22 series (or the Galaxy S22 Ultra — that is not entirely clear) through a Camera app update rather than a system update or monthly patch. So, if you own the Galaxy S22, and especially the S22 Ultra, be on the lookout for a Camera app update. We will, too, and we'll keep you posted if we find out more.
In (machine) translation, it appears that the community moderator said Samsung “will notify you when the application schedule is confirmed,” thus hinting that smoother zoom animations will arrive as part of a Camera app update rather than a system-wide firmware release. We'll keep an eye out and let you know as soon as we find out more.
As it stands, camera zoom animations on the Galaxy S22 are not bad, but they could be better. They're a bit delayed, and sometimes they look choppy. Whether the improved animations are possible without a chipset upgrade is to be determined, but in theory, at least, a lot can be achieved through better software optimization. The Exynos 2200 experience was not great at launch, but now, the Galaxy S22 is one of Samsung's most stable flagships.
