An Exynos chip could be at the heart of one more upcoming device from Google

Google's first smartphone processor, the Tensor, is based on an Exynos processor. It is used in the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. If a new report is to be believed, we could see the internet search giant repeat the same strategy with the chipset for one of its upcoming devices.

According to a new report from 9To5Google, several references to the ‘Rohan' codename and an Exynos chipset were found in the Wear OS 3 code. Rohan is reportedly the codename for Google's upcoming Pixel-branded smartwatch, and it is said to feature the next-generation Google Assistant experience.

Similar to how Google customized an Exynos chipset with its own ISP (Image Signal Processor) and TPU (Tensor Processing Unit) for the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, it is possible that the company would use an Exynos W920-like chipset with some of its own bits. Such customizations could help with on-device AI processing for faster and more accurate Google Assistant responses.

Some Wear OS 3 features and UI design (sans One UI Watch) were leaked through Google's emulator. It brings new watch faces, a simpler list format for the app drawer, a gradient design for the buttons, a pill-shaped UI for accessing media playback controls, and a new UI for customizing watch faces. It is also said to feature a four-colored light curve for Google Assistant.

With Google and Samsung working extremely closely for Wear OS 3, the Pixel smartwatch may use the Exynos W920 processor as-is or its customized version.
