At 4.1mm unfolded, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is Samsung's thinnest Z Fold ever

Samsung’s first book-style foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold, was significantly thicker than traditional smartphones of its time, making its bulky design one of the device’s biggest drawbacks.

Since then, the brand has launched every new phone in the lineup with a thinner chassis than its predecessor. The biggest leap came last year with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, whose thickness matched not only rival foldable phones from Chinese brands but also many conventional non-foldable smartphones.

Just when it seemed that Samsung couldn't make a thinner Galaxy Z Fold device anytime soon, the company has raised the bar again. The newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra measures just 4.1mm thick when unfolded, making it 0.1mm thinner than its predecessor and the thinnest book-style foldable phone the tech giant has ever made.

While that may not sound like a significant improvement on paper, it should still make a noticeable difference in everyday use.

What's even more impressive is that Samsung achieved this while upgrading almost every major component. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra features better outer and inner displays, a more powerful processor, a more advanced rear camera system, newer connectivity options, faster charging speed, and, most importantly, a larger battery pack. 

While a higher-capacity battery typically requires more internal space, the brand managed to increase the battery capacity while reducing the phone's thickness by adopting silicon-carbon battery technology.

It's also worth noting that despite all these upgrades, the company has kept the device's weight unchanged from the previous model.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra shows that Samsung is no longer on the back foot in the foldable race. It now delivers not only a polished user experience but also the specifications consumers expect on paper. By combining a thinner and lighter design with meaningful hardware upgrades and no obvious compromises, Samsung has managed to offer the best of both worlds.
