Apple opened pre-orders for the Vision Pro on 19 January 2024. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the company sold between 160,000 and 180,000 units of the mixed-reality headset on that weekend. Now, according to a new report from MacRumors, Apple has sold more than 200,000 units of the Vision Pro since the pre-orders have gone live. That means the sales of the Vision Pro have slowed down significantly after the initial hype.

A report from Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple has produced only 60,000 to 80,000 units of the headset for the initial release (it will go on sale on 2 February 2024) as the company doesn’t expect the headset to sell in high numbers because it is a niche and costly product. However, the initial hype seems to be much higher than what Apple expected and that explains why the headset’s deliveries are backordered into March.

Apple has said that it will offer spatial games and 3D movies for the Vision Pro at launch. So, people won't have to worry about content for the headset. At the same time, the company has downgraded the Vision Pro's AirPlay resolution to 720p, which is quite disappointing. The Vision Pro also lacks Wi-Fi 6E and UWB connectivity, which could have been very useful in day-to-day usage. Reviews of the Vision Pro will go live later today.
