Samsung has been supplying OLED panels to Apple since the first Apple Watch ever came out. Since then, it has broadened the supply of OLED panels for iPhones. Now, it is being reported that the South Korean firm will start offering its OLED panels for future iPads.

According to a report from TheElec, Samsung Display has started prioritizing the development of special OLED panels that will be used in certain iPad models in 2024. Earlier, the company wanted to develop full-cut OLED panels. However, after looking at the possible demand for OLED panels for iPads, the company has started the development of two-stack tandem OLED panels. These panels could also be used in some Apple Macs.

Two-stack tandem OLED panels use two layers of pixels instead of one. This hybrid technology reportedly offers higher brightness and longer life than current-generation OLED panels used in smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, TVs, and laptops. OLED panels are known to have a shorter lifespan and burn-in issues, and Apple wants to solve those issues with two-stack tandem OLED panels.

Full-cut OLED panels are reportedly more advanced than the two-stack OLED panels that Apple will use. However, from a business perspective, it is better for the company to develop panels with higher demand in the near future. So, Samsung Display has put the development of full-cut OLED panels on the back burner.
