Samsung's move to switch from Tizen to Wear OS for its smartwatches is proving to be beneficial. It now has access to a lot more apps and services compared to when it was using Tizen for Galaxy Watches. Most of the improvements come from Google's first-party apps, and the company is looking to bring even more apps in the future.

A new report reveals that Google is developing the Google News app for Wear OS smartwatches. As the screenshots suggest, it will be a super-simplified version of the Google News app that's available on Android. You can browse headlines, the article's feature image, and some text. If you want to read more, you can click on the source button to open that article in the Google News app on the paired smartphone.

The look and feel of the app resemble Google's first-party apps for Wear OS 3 smartwatches. Although this app isn't visible on the Play Store yet, it was accessed using a Google Assistant hack, allowing people to see what the app might look like when it's released. If you're someone who keeps a close eye on the news, you can soon install it on your Samsung smartwatch running Wear OS 3 (or higher).

Google and Samsung co-developed the Wear OS 3 operating system to further the wearable platform for Android smartphone users. The Galaxy Watch 4 series was the first to run Wear OS 3. A few days ago, Google launched its own Pixel smartwatch as a commitment to Wear OS. More brands will launch Wear OS 3-based smartwatches in the near future.
