TL;DR

  • Some Android Auto users on Galaxy and Pixel phones are having trouble with hands-free calling after Gemini’s wider rollout.
  • When users ask Gemini to call or text someone, Android Auto may get stuck repeating “Who do you want to call?” instead of completing the action.
  • Google says it is aware of the problem and is investigating it while collecting reports from affected users.

Numerous Android Auto users are having issues with hands-free calling following a recent wider rollout of Gemini. Coincidence or not, some Galaxy phones, along with Pixel phones, seem to be affected.

The issue prevents Android Auto users from placing hands-free phone calls using voice commands. When users tell Gemini to contact someone, the assistant gets stuck in a loop and asks the same question: Who do you want to call?

Texting is also reportedly affected, meaning that even though Android Auto's Gemini understands the tasks, it fails to find contacts and complete the job.

Samsung probably can't do anything, but Google is aware

Based on user reports from the Android Auto Help forums, affected Samsung devices include the Galaxy S24, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and the Galaxy S26. There may be others.

Thankfully, Google took notice. The Android Auto team is actively responding to user complaints, collecting data, and investigating the issue.
