TL;DR

  • Leaked case renders suggest Samsung may add a Galaxy S27 Pro alongside the base S27, S27+, and S27 Ultra.
  • The S27 Pro and S27 Ultra appear to use a new raised camera plateau design, while the base S27 and S27+ keep a familiar look.
  • Reports say 5x optical zoom may remain exclusive to the Ultra, and the lineup could arrive in early 2027.

Drastic changes are apparently coming to the 2027 Galaxy S series. The Plus version doesn't seem to be going away, as many past rumors wrongly predicted in recent years, but a Pro model may be added to the lineup instead.

No longer a trio, here's what the Galaxy S27 quartet might look like. Leaker Ice Universe shared a render/photo of four protective cases destined for the S27 series.

These cases align perfectly with the most recent design leaks. The base S27 and the Galaxy S27+ share the same overall design language and should look essentially the same as the 2026 models.

Yet unclear if the bigger camera housing has a practical reason to exist

The more exciting models are the Galaxy S27 Pro and the Galaxy S27 Ultra, which adopt a brand-new camera housing reminiscent of Apple's “camera plateau.”

Whether Samsung will use this raised plateau to fit in more hardware, as Apple does on its latest iPhones, is unclear.

It could be a purely aesthetic choice, and the camera island might be glued on for all we know. But at the very least, two out of the four phones may look very different from what we've gotten used to.

Unfortunately, despite the similar look between the Pro and Ultra models, recent reports suggest that they won't have the same optical zoom capabilities. 5x optical zoom may be reserved for the Ultra, which is unfortunate for anyone who wants the Ultra's capabilities in a slightly more compact device.

The lack of powerful optical zoom might be one such compromise, but time will tell whether the Pro model will make other sacrifices compared with the Ultra.

Of course, nothing is really confirmed until it is, and since we're only now entering September, a lot can still change before the next big Galaxy Unpacked launch event.

Speaking of which, there's no concrete information about the launch, but if Samsung maintains its usual schedule, the Galaxy S27 series should be unveiled in January or February 2027.
