Samsung and Google's smart glasses bring Gemini to your everyday life

After unveiling design concepts for their first smart glasses a few months ago at Google I/O, Samsung and Google have now revealed their final designs. The two companies co-developed their first smart glasses, currently called Intelligent Eyewear, in partnership with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

They run Android XR and offer everyday AI-powered assistance through Gemini.

These Intelligent Eyewear devices have lightweight frames and a slim profile for all-day comfort while maintaining everyday durability. Gentle Monster and Warby Parker design variants reflect each brand's distinct fashion identity.

The Gentle Monster version has a slim black frame with a straight upper rim and softly rounded lower edges. It is completely different from the concept Samsung showcased earlier, but may suit more users' design preferences. Warby Parker's version is available in brown with a subtly upswept brow line.

Samsung worked closely with both eyewear brands throughout the design process to refine key fit points, including the forehead and ears. These insights helped Gentle Monster and Warby Parker optimize the fit of each model for enhanced comfort and everyday wearability.

The smart glasses use Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 platform and run Android XR. They have a built-in camera, microphones, speakers, and touch-sensitive areas on the temples for controlling the glasses. The built-in camera allows them to see what you see during everyday moments and offer intelligent assistance through Gemini.

These glasses can be operated through a mix of voice commands, taps, and swipes. They also integrate with other Galaxy ecosystem products, such as the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watches. However, Samsung says gestures only work with the Galaxy Watch 9 (or newer models).

They connect to a smartphone and can summarize long messages and support live translation using simple voice commands or gestures. They can also capture what you see, such as a meeting whiteboard or a poster, and organize relevant information in the Samsung Notes app.

Based on your location, you can find a navigation route to a destination or learn more about what is around you, such as a building or historical monument. Gemini can understand context through follow-up conversations and offer more detailed information or answers while connecting relevant information across tasks.

You can also share what you are seeing during a call to add more context while keeping your hands free. With permission, Gemini Intelligence can use your personal data to offer deeper context and information while completing tasks. The glasses will work with Google and Samsung apps, including Google Maps, Google Translate, Samsung Notes, Spotify, and YouTube Music.

With mixed use, Samsung claims that its Intelligent Eyewear can last up to nine hours on a single charge, while the charging case provides up to seven additional full charges.

Samsung has not yet announced a launch date or pricing for its smart glasses, but they are expected to be available for purchase before the end of this year.

Prescription lens options will be available during the purchase. The glasses could be available in more styles in the future.
