Samsung’s smartphones with foldable displays from 2023, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5, are the oldest devices in their lineups eligible to get the brand’s latest Android skin for its phones, One UI 9.0 (Android 17). Now, the company seems to have started developing the new software for the two phones.

On Samsung’s server, firmware files for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 featuring One UI 9.0 have been spotted for the first time (via Tarun Vats). It suggests that the tech giant has started testing the new Android skin for both phones. Unfortunately, we don’t have versions of either firmware file yet.

One UI 9.0, as you may know, offers a more customisable Quick Panel, improvements to Game Booster, Samsung DeX, and Samsung Notes, and enhancements to many accessibility features. We have made a video highlighting the biggest changes, which you can watch at the end of this article.

Samsung debuted One UI 9.0 last month by releasing its beta version for the Galaxy S26 series. The brand is expected to showcase its stable version for the first time on its upcoming foldable phones, Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8. They are said to arrive this month.
