It has been over two years since Samsung launched its first smart ring, and there were rumors that the company was planning to launch a successor in 2025. However, those rumors turned out to be false. Now, a Samsung executive has confirmed that the company is indeed working on the Galaxy Ring 2 and that it could come with some surprising features.

Galaxy Ring 2 development confirmed, could feature iPhone pairing support

In an interview with Forbes, Dr. Hon Pak, Samsung’s Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team, confirmed that the company is actively developing the next-generation Galaxy Ring. He noted that wearable sensors across the industry are now relatively similar in terms of capabilities, so the key differentiator will be the software services built on top of the collected health data.

Currently, the Galaxy Ring can only be paired with Android devices. When asked about the possibility of iPhone compatibility in the future, Dr. Hon Pak strongly hinted that broader compatibility is being considered for the Galaxy Ring 2. While remaining diplomatic, he said, “I’m smiling but I can’t say anything. I think you’ll be very pleased with some of the releases and the upcoming news.

Since the Galaxy Ring doesn’t have a display and can’t show notifications from a connected phone, it can still offer almost its full suite of features even when paired with an iPhone. So, if Samsung makes the Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health apps compatible with the iPhone, the Galaxy Ring would be the most logical Samsung wearable to gain iPhone support.

Samsung's future plans for its health ecosystem

Dr. Pak also revealed Samsung’s future plans for its connected health ecosystem. Modern wearables monitor blood oxygen, heart rate, respiratory rate, sleep, and steps throughout the day. Samsung then observes the user’s vital signs over seven days to establish a baseline and alert them if their health data deviates from it.

Samsung’s Heart Health Score feature measures a user’s health across four metrics, Activity, Nutrition, Sleep, and Stress, to assess and predict cardiovascular health risk. With its custom AI Health Coaching feature slated for launch in 2027, the company plans to use an AI companion to learn user behavior and provide personalized motivation instead of generic coaching, helping users achieve better health outcomes.

The company also plans to take advantage of its broad ecosystem of products to help users stay on top of their fitness goals. Through SmartThings-compatible cooking ranges, microwaves, and refrigerators, Samsung can recommend healthy recipes based on the ingredients available in a user’s refrigerator through the Samsung Food app.
