Samsung's Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub gets Gemini in the US with new update

Samsung has released a new software update for the Bespoke AI Family Hub Refrigerator series in the US. It is a major update that brings Gemini for improved food recognition through AI Vision, a more capable version of Bixby, and Now Brief widgets for personalized updates.

This update was released in South Korea a couple of months ago.

Samsung has announced that it is rolling out a new over-the-network (OTN) software update today to select 32-inch display versions of Bespoke AI Family Hub Refrigerators in the US. The update for 9-inch display models will be released later this year in phases.

The update brings Google’s Gemini model, which is now used to recognize more types of food items, including both fresh and packaged foods, with greater accuracy. This is in addition to the 40 pre-studied types of food items that the refrigerator could already recognize.

The refrigerator can also learn your food consumption habits and alert you when a particular food item needs to be restocked.

With the upgraded Bixby, the refrigerator can now understand natural language commands and conversations more effectively. For example, if you say, “Bixby, make round ice for my drinks,” it will turn on Sphere Ice Mode. If you say, “Bixby, make the refrigerator cooler if it gets hot out,” it will ask what outside temperature should trigger the adjustment. Once you answer, it will automatically change the refrigerator’s temperature settings when that condition is met.

With Now Brief, Bespoke AI Family Hub Refrigerators can display widgets tailored to your needs. It can show Trending Recipes from Samsung Food.

The FoodNote widget displays your most-used ingredients from the past week and recipes that use those ingredients.

The What’s For Today? widget offers recipe recommendations that can either be random or based on the ingredients stocked inside the refrigerator.

Each user in the home can receive personalized recommendations through Voice ID. This feature identifies each household member based on their voice and can offer the following information:
