Samsung is working on two new Galaxy Z Fold smartphones this year. In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung is reportedly developing another Fold that, based on its model number, could be a slightly cheaper device. It seems development on this new Fold is coming along swimmingly.
That’s evident from the fact that Samsung has now started development of this second Fold’s software. Like the Fold 8 and Flip 8, it will run Android 17 and One UI 9 out of the box. The first firmware for the device carries the build number F971USQU0AZB1. One UI 9 firmware for the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 was also spotted today.
According to existing rumors, this new Fold will feature a wider design, similar to Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Internally codenamed H8, it will launch globally. Unfortunately, no specifications for the device are known at this time, though we can assume it will share most of its specs with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Hopefully, that will include a creaseless foldable display.
As for One UI 9, Samsung’s new foldables will likely be the first devices to ship with it out of the box. The Galaxy S26 series, meanwhile, will launch with One UI 8.5, and if history is any guide, it should be the first among existing devices to receive the One UI 9 update.
