Update: Samsung reached out to us with the following statement on the matter: “We stand behind the quality and safety of the millions of Samsung mobile devices in use across the world. While our analysis concluded external force was the cause, there was insufficient evidence to determine what was responsible for this isolated incident. We remain in contact with our customer to reach a resolution.”

Original story follows:

In November 2025, an individual from Indiana, USA, reported that their partner's (wife's) Galaxy S25+, which they bought two months ago, exploded while getting charged through Samsung’s official charger and cable. The incident took place in the middle of the night while they were sleeping, and it burned a small area on their carpet.

The individual and their partner allegedly inhaled fumes from the explosion, which caused them a few short-term health issues. They then reached out to Samsung regarding the incident, seeking damages.

To that extent, the individual provided the tech giant with the local fire department's report on the incident, which stated that it was a “thermal runaway event” caused by fire, medical records showing smoke inhalation and respiratory symptoms, and receipts showing proof of purchase for the phone, official charger, and supplies for cleaning/restoring their house.

User is unhappy with Samsung's settlement offer

According to the user, Samsung agreed to reimburse the couple for the Galaxy S25+, direct medical bills, and expenses for cleaning/restoring their house.

In addition to that, Samsung’s Fire and Marine Insurance team is offering $500 each to the owner of the device, their partner, and their child for the “Pain and Suffering” the incident has caused them.

According to the user, they and their partner feel that the resolution that Samsung is offering is “an extreme lowball.” They say “Everyone in the home inhaled toxic lithium-ion fumes. We feel this doesn't account for the long-term health monitoring or the trauma of waking up to a chemical fire. Ever since the incident, my partner has literally been traumatized and genuinely feels afraid to charge her phone.

Unhappy with Samsung's settlement offer/resolution, the individual is asking people on Reddit their opinion on a realistic monetary figure that compensates for the pain and suffering, as well as if anyone has been able to successfully negotiate with Samsung's Fire and Marine Insurance.

People on the platform are suggesting that the individual reach out to a lawyer, who may help them seek maximum damages.
