Samsung's first tri-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, comes with a promise of increased productivity. One of the ways it offers improved productivity is through its bigger screen. It has the biggest screen ever on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone, and Samsung is making sure that big screen is put to good use.
The Galaxy Z TriFold features Samsung DeX, and it is Samsung's first phone that can run DeX directly on the device's display. Up until now, only Galaxy tablets could run DeX directly on their own screens, while phones needed to be connected (wired or wirelessly) to an external monitor or a TV to run DeX. Since the Galaxy Z TriFold has a 10-inch foldable screen, it matches the screen real estate of Galaxy tablets and can run DeX on its own display.
With One UI 8.0, Samsung built DeX on top of Android 16's Desktop Mode. This new version is more powerful, as it supports up to four virtual desktops (workspaces), each having a capability of running up to five apps. This allows you to have each workspace dedicated to a certain type of task.
The new version of DeX also supports widgets, and they are resizable as well. You can pin frequently used apps to the taskbar and easily resize windows or minimize them. It also supports advanced features like display rotation and on-screen keyboard appearance customisation. You can read more about it in our detailed article.
