YouTube Music bug is causing screen awake issues on some Samsung devices

Is your smartphone's display staying awake while playing songs on YouTube Music? Well, you aren't alone. Last week, Google updated Android's YouTube Music app (version 5.23.50). The updated app has a rather peculiar bug: it keeps the screen turned on while the music is playing, even when you don't interact with it.

The issue persists no matter where you are in the app's UI, may it be the Now Playing screen or YouTube Music's Home feed. The screen stays awake regardless of the screen timeout interval set in the device settings. 9To5Google reports that they've encountered this problem on Pixel smartphones running on Android 13 and Samsung devices with Android 12L. However, it could be a more widely spread issue.

According to the report, the display on their test device stayed on for 15 minutes while the music played. However, there seem to be zero issues when there's no music playing on the app. If you play a song through YouTube Music and leave the device to charge, the screen could stay turned on, causing the device to get warm and slow down the charging speed. However, most people turn the screen off manually when they are done using the phone.

Until Google releases a new version of the app to fix this issue, it would be a good idea to manually turn off the screen whenever you play songs via YouTube Music on your Galaxy Z Fold 4 (or any device running Android 12L or Android 13).
